Rory McIlroy has closed the hole on chief Xander Schauffele and is now only one shot behind the American heading into the final day of the Wells Fargo.
The Northern Irishman had his second straight bogey-free day with a 4 below par 67 after he shot 4 birdies to arrange an exhilarating end at Quail Hole in Charlotte on Sunday.
McIlroy stated he was happy together with his efficiency on Saturday and stated: “Two straight bogey-free rounds, that is what it should really feel prefer to be Scottie Scheffler.
“I feel I’ve held out fairly properly for probably the most half inside six ft, after which I feel as a result of I do know this golf course so properly, I’ve missed it in the precise spots when I’ve missed the inexperienced.
“To play two rounds in a row on this golf course in these situations bogey free is a little bit of a feather in my cap, I’m fairly pleased with that.”
Schauffele had his worst day of the event up to now, carding a one below par 70 with two birdies and a bogey.
He sits at 12 below par, with South Korea’s Sungjae Im 4 pictures behind in third.
