The hassle to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales has cleared its first hurdle in parliament. After an impassioned debate – MPs voted to cross Kim Leadbeater’s invoice by 330 to 275 – a majority of 55.
Amongst these supporting it – Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his predecessor Rishi Sunak.
The invoice proposes that assisted dying is offered to terminally sick adults with 6 months left to stay however that it have to be authorized by two medical doctors and have judicial oversight. Our political editor Gary Gibbon experiences.
