A passenger airplane in southeastern Brazil crashed this afternoon, sparking a fireplace in a residential space outdoors Sao Paulo. Officers with the Brazilian firm say 4 crew members and 57 passengers have been aboard that flight. First responders on the bottom say there have been no survivors, and it is unclear what induced the accident. From Rio de Janeiro, NPR’s Carrie Kahn studies.
CARRIE KAHN, BYLINE: The flight took off somewhat earlier than midday as we speak, estimated to reach lower than two hours later at Sao Paulo’s worldwide airport. Round 1:20 p.m., the aircraft was noticed spinning and falling from the sky. A number of movies on social media present the terrifying fall.

KAHN: “Guys, come look. A aircraft is falling. It is falling,” shouts this man, who posted his video on X.
In response to Flightradar, a worldwide flight tracker, the aircraft dropped greater than 13,000 toes in simply two minutes. Firefighters, native police and civil safety forces referred to as to the scene stated there have been no survivors. The aircraft crashed in a residential space outdoors Sao Paulo and burst into flames.

KAHN: Residents posted movies warning of a potential explosion as flames shot up from the wreckage. The aircraft was operated by Voepass Airways. In an announcement, the corporate stated the plane confirmed no indicators of issues and was cleared for takeoff.

KAHN: At a public occasion in Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva requested the viewers to face.
