Professor Joan Breton Connelly, head archaeologist of Yeronisos island off Peyia, will probably be given honorary citizenship of Paphos on Friday, June 14 in a ceremony on the Attikon multicultural house in Paphos.
An archaeologist carefully related to each town and the district of Paphos for 50 years, Connelly’s ceremony will probably be addressed by Paphos mayor Phedonas Pheodonos. Connelly may also give a presentation entitled “Eyes of Paphos: The Jewel of Ptolemaic Alexandria”.
Connelly will obtain this honour for her many years of dedication to the archaeology of Paphos and the island of Yeronisos, during which she has labored as an excavator and researcher important to the invention and safety of antiquities within the Paphos district.
Connelly has taught at New York College (NYU) since 1986 and excavated in Greece, Kuwait and Cyprus, the place since 1990 she has directed the NYU Archaeological Mission to Yeronisos in Peyia, main an interdisciplinary investigation of the island’s ecology, geomorphology, archaeology, historical past and maritime connection.
Connelly has written three books and revealed quite a few shorter works in analysis collections and scientific journals. Her work has been awarded prizes and distinctions by outstanding tutorial and analysis establishments within the US, the UK and Greece.
