French far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen has died aged 96, based on a household assertion shared with AFP.
Le Pen, who had been in a care facility for a number of weeks, died at noon on Tuesday “surrounded by his family members”, the household stated.
Le Pen – a Holocaust denier and an unrepentant extremist on race, gender and immigration – based the French far-right Nationwide Entrance get together in 1972.
He reached the presidential election-run off in opposition to Jacques Chirac in 2002.
Le Pen’s daughter, Marine, took over as get together chief in 2011. She has since rebranded the get together as Nationwide Rally, turning it into one in every of France’s fundamental political forces.
Jordan Bardella, who succeeded Marine Le Pen as get together chair in 2022, stated Jean-Marie had “at all times served France” and “defended its identification and sovereignty”.
