Labour wouldn’t amend the Equality Act if elected as a result of there are already provisions to guard single-sex areas, shadow defence secretary John Healey has mentioned.
Mr Healey mentioned the Tories’ plan to make adjustments to the Act was “not wanted”.
Talking to Instances Radio, Mr Healey mentioned: “We won’t wish to amend the Act, it’s not wanted. The Act, by the way, was a Labour Act in 2010, that was opposed by the Tories, but it surely already supplies protections for single-sex areas for organic ladies.
“It already supplies a definition of a lady, and intercourse and gender are totally different.
