The European Union condemns all assaults towards United Nations missions, the union’s international coverage chief Josep Borrell stated in a response to focusing on of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, referred to as UNIFIL, by the Israel Defence Forces.
“Such assaults towards UN peacekeepers represent a grave violation of worldwide regulation and are completely unacceptable. These assaults should cease instantly,” Borrell stated in a press release on behalf of the EU revealed Sunday evening.
“The EU condemns all assaults towards UN missions,” Borrell stated.
“It expresses significantly grave concern concerning the assaults by the Israeli Defence Forces towards UNIFIL, which left a number of peacekeepers wounded.”
Israel has disputed some UN accounts of incidents involving UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated they have been offering “human shields” for Hezbollah militants throughout an upsurge in hostilities.
