A large 7.5-magnitude earthquake has hit Taiwan, sparking fears of three-metre tall tsunami waves affecting Japan’s southern islands.
The Japan Meteorological Company (JMA) has issued a tsunami alert for the southern islands of the Far Jap nation following the tremor, which occurred shortly earlier than 9am Japanese native time (12am GMT).
A submit from the JMA’s catastrophe preparation account on X, previously Twitter, has warned these within the affected areas to not go away designated protected zones till given the all clear.
A translation of the tweet learn: ‘As of 09:01 on the third, a tsunami warning has been issued. Tsunamis strike repeatedly. Don’t go away your protected space till the warning has been lifted.’
The JMA says the Okinawa and Miyajokima and Yaeyama island groupings are prone to tsunamis as much as three metres (10feet) excessive.
