Donald Trump’s authorized crew sought to dismantle the credibility of key prosecution witness Michael Cohen in his Manhattan trial on Tuesday.
Cohen, Mr Trump’s former lawyer, testified about hush-money funds to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.
The ex-president confirmed no response whereas his present counsel, Todd Blanche, attacked Cohen’s motivations.
Cohen, portrayed by different witnesses as being fast to anger, stayed calm throughout two hours of tense exchanges.
Mr Blanche sought to forged him as a person with a private vendetta towards the previous president, and one who sought to revenue from Mr Trump’s authorized woes and brazenly yearned for a conviction.
At one level Mr Blanche requested bluntly if Cohen wished to see Mr Trump convicted within the case, the primary legal trial of a former president.
After being pressed, Cohen responded: “Certain.”
Cohen, who was imprisoned for tax evasion, fraud and marketing campaign finance violations in relation to the cost, was referred to as by the prosecution primarily to testify that Mr Trump was conscious of the scheme repay Ms Daniels $130,000 (£104,300).
Mr Trump faces 34 counts of enterprise fraud for allegedly reimbursing Cohen for the cost via transactions disguised as authorized bills.
Prosecutors cost that concealing the cost, made simply earlier than the 2016 presidential election, qualifies as election interference. The previous president pleaded not responsible to the fees and denies having intercourse with Ms Daniels.
